The NAEMT Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS) Course prepares prehospital practitioners to respond to, assess, and care for the rapidly growing elderly population. Now in its 3rd edition, the course enhances practitioners’ ability to deliver effective, compassionate, and evidence-based care for older adults in every community.
Because the aging process affects all body systems, GEMS provides a comprehensive overview of physiological, social, and environmental changes that impact patient presentation. The course introduces the GEMS Diamond (Geriatric, Environmental, Medical, and Social assessments) to help practitioners develop a holistic diagnostic and treatment approach.
